As we head in to a new year, there is always a lot of momentum and fun around making goals, planning challenges, plotting our course for the new year.
The only problem is that most of us while we are planning for a fantastic new year you’ll also be having a bit of a business slump.
The thing is if you are a service business or an online shop the challenge of Christmas and New Year’s can take a toll on your finances and also on your frame of mind.
Here’s the clinker: If were not feeling the love for our business and our money all the planning in the world won’t make a difference.
We’ve got to get loved up with our business again before we can make any progress.
There are a couple of ways that we can look at our slump.
We can get moody and fearful, which if you’ve read any mindset work just leads to more moody and fearful … check out Lucky Bitch if you’re ready to make that change!
Or we can take a moment to reflect on why we gave up the holiday pay and health benefits. By reflecting inwards on why we started our business and the aspects of being the boss that we love.
Since I know you’re a up and coming entrepreneur I’m pretty sure that you’ve already decided you want to make a red hot go of this and you’ve chosen the second option.

Why did you decide to start your business? Who are you helping? Starting your own business is a big decision and one I’m sure wasn’t made lightly so this is the best place to start. If you can remember your enthusiasm and spark you can kick start some amazing momentum.
2. Get in touch with some of your favourite clients from the past year
Chances are if you’ve loved working with them you’ve made a connection. By keeping in touch you not only improve your business relationships you have a constant reminder of the good you’re doing.
This may seem strange but take a good long look at your finances. Become friends with your money. It’s all well and good to be changing the world but our businesses also pay the bills. By looking over your finances and staring them straight in the face you can see how your effort over the last year has helped you to grow. Inspiration can come from things you’ve been able to buy or experiences that you’ve had as a result too.
4. Read back over testimonials that you’ve received.
A little bit of client love never goes astray. Go back through and re-read your testimonials and give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it! You’re making a difference here.
5. Connect with your followers and likers.
I mean actually have a chat. Reach out and ask questions, answer questions. Get talking. Find our where your clients are hanging out and reinvigorate your passion.
6. Reevaluate your current offerings and website.
What has worked over the last year? What was a disaster or a pain in the backside? What are you ready to let go of? Do it! Don’t take your crap along for the ride. If it doesn’t light you up lose it and lose the stress.
Yup, you heard me. Take some time just you (maybe your partner too!) and celebrate. You’re a rock star. Pamper yourself, go and grab your favourite meal or enjoy a movie. What ever it is – leave your business at home. One of the most fabulous advantages of working for yourself is flexibility so take the day (or night!) to enjoy it. You’ll feel refreshed, invigorated and ready to take on the New Year properly.
It’s amazing how changing your mindset for even a minute can reset your thoughts and feelings.
By focusing on what has worked and where you want to be you can trigger all of the enthusiasm and passion which is why you started your business in the first place.
